The beauty book: Straight Hair

Image

What are the characteristics?

Straight hair is normally fine and thin. Although straight hair looks fantastic in long straight styles or short crops if you want hair with body and bounce its going to take some work.

How to care for straight hair

The most important thing your hair needs is a gentle shampoo. Choose one thats marked for daily washing as it will be low in detergents and high in moisturizers. Using moisturizing shampoos mean you can wash your hair without using a conditioner. Never use leave in or two in one products if you want to create some bounce and volume thickening shampoo is best for you.

Top 5 tips for straight hair

  • Your perfect brush is a flat paddle brush with wide bristles that separate the hair without damage.
  • Avoid products with alcohol in their top three ingredients. It may make your hair thick but it will make strands cling togther
  • Straight hair is the shiniest as light reflects the cuticle. To maximize your natural asset make the last rinse a cold one as this flattens the cuticle.
  • If you want volume try not to handle your hair too much. Heat and oil from your hands can be enough to make it straight again
  • Also adding highlights or low lights will add volume to your hair, it will create depth and texture

Make your treatment

  • 1 large jug of peppermint tea (use two teabags)
  • Tea tree oil

Make up the peppermint tea and leave it to cool. Add 10 drops of tea tree oil. Pour over head as a final rinse.

The beauty Book : Wavy Hair

Image

What are the characteristics?

Wavy hair is often thick and coarse and theres normally loads of it to play with. It also suits both long and short styles easily. The trouble is people with wavy hair would rather make it straight or really curly. But why waste the time when you have fantastic hair yourself?

How to care for it

Wavy hair can handle frequent washing but responds best to being left for two days between shampoos. When you need shampoo its unlikely that you need any thickening shampoos, but that doesn’t mean you should grab any bottle off the shelf! Beacause wavy hair is thick it can easily be weighed down, so using a volumizing shampoo would help maximize the life in it. Wash your hair and put in light condtionar , and rinse. Then you need to dry it which is where you can create truly wonderful waves. Start by towel drying the hair lightly by patting it, then apply some anti friz or styling cream. Divide the hair into sections about 1 inch across. Using your fingers twist these into ropes and fasten them with a pin. Leave it to dry naturally. When it is dry unravel and rake it with your fingers.

Tips for wavy hair

  • Before brushing spray your brush with hairspray to prevent static
  • Go for regular trims even if you have long hair. Split ends will create a fuzzball at the ends of your hair and destroy your look
  • Wavy hair won’t reflect light like straight hair does, so it can often look dull. Make sure you keep it moisturized!

Make your hair treatment!

  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 heaped tsp plain youghurt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Mash these things in a large bowl. Then apply it to your hair focusing on the ends and up to where the waves begin. This will moisturize these areas. Wrap your hair in a towel and sit with this for about 20 mins then rinse it off!

The beauty book: Curly hair

Characteristics of curly hair

Curly hair is nearly always dry hair, this combined with the fact that light reflects better from straight surfaces than curved ones means that girls with curls often wish they had long sleek hair . But I must admit I LOVE luscious curls .Curls also tangle faster resulting in breaking and splitting of hairs ,and your hair is already quite fragile . Only a little bit of moisture in the air for your sleek curls to turn into tangled webs! But no need to worry there is plenty of ways to fix it.!

Caring for curly hair

Now if you have curly hair never ever wash it every day! It tends to dehydrate the hair and make it more frizzy and unmanageable. Instead let your hair pick up some natural oils to help keep it calm and under control. If you have to wash to feel clean, skip the shampoo and just rinse it with water, then apply conditioner. When you wash use moisturizing shampoos and leave in conditioners to add hydrating ingredients. For the best results comb through with a wide toothed comb (The best way to comb your hair) . Twice a month use intensive conditioner or hot oil treatment or you can use the hair treatment I’ll give you now. Apply an anti friz styling cream to the hair while its still wet and leave it to dry naturally. And NEVER TIP YOUR HEAD UPSIDE DOWN YOURE ASKING FOR  FRIZZ

Tips for curly hair:

  • If you find your brush is always tangling your hair splash out on one made of boars hair which dont stick
  • |If you don’t want to fork out for that just use your fingers, they are better for your hair than most brushes
  • If your curls gone flat over night don’t think you need to style them again. Just flip your head upside down and massage the hair near your scalp . This will make volume
  • To protect curly hair from further dehydration always stop blow drying just before the ends are completely dry
  • You don’t need long hair to look beautiful , layered short styles which prevent the hair from spilling work as well as long hair

Make your treatment

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential

Place the olive in a small saucepan and warm it gently it should not be hot just heated. Remove it then add the lavender. Then apply the mixture to your hair. Wrap it in a towel to maximize oil penetration and relax for 20 mins. Wash out the oil with gentle shampoo and condition!

Pampering Day: How to have the perfect bath

Image

I decided to write about pampering yourself every once in a while, because I believe that everyone needs to be pampered every now and then, but not everyone knows how . So today my topic is about having the perfect relaxing bath.

Baths are just one of the most relaxing things you can do, you stay away from your social life for a while, take time to think, enjoy the feeling of water on your body, and go to an entire different state of mind.

1-Temperature: Make sure your bathroom is at the right temperature for you so you do not feel uncomfortable inside of the bath and feel like you need to get out too fast. And since I mean having a HOT bath I mean hot water, so I do not recommend your bathroom stay warm because you can start to sweat in the middle of your bath due to the heat

2-Clean your bath before hand. This is something I really hate. Its when I’m already all cuddled down into my bath water and then all of the sudden I realize that there was something in there that shouldn’t be. Be it a bug or hair or whatever I don’t want anything bathing with me . So make sure your bathtub is clean before you start the water.

3-Get the water running. Well this is an obvious step , but make sure you do not over flow your bathtub or put too little water or otherwise your half of you will be out and the other half would be in , which I find uncomfortable.

4-Get your things ready: There are so many essentials to have with you in your bath depending on how you relax, but my recommendations are:

  • Bath Gel/Cream: Be sure to get bubbley bath gel or cream and something that smells divine! I LOVE Champney’s Spa Indulgence Collection my favorite is Oriental Opulence Bubble Heaven , they sell these in boots or online.
  • Candles: I buy my candles from Bath&Body works, they have some amazing candles that will just relax you to no end. Go to the candle store and shop for them yourself, I would not recomend lighting too many different scented candles otherwise it might make a weird scent in the bathroom. Also be careful where you place the candles you don’t wanna be burning your house down.
  • Bath pillow: If you have no place to rest your neck you should get a bath pillow otherwise you will more than likely get a neck ache by the time your out
  • Music: Depending on what you like ofcourse, I do not like to play actual music , more of nature sounds they relax me much more than music I bought mine from the Scientific Center it’s called Natural Dreams its a collection of a lot of different sounds
  • Towels: Keep your towel close by you so you can get out very easily without looking for one
  • Bath salts, or bath oil beads: I lovvvve these they are so much fun to have with you in the bath , they give a great scent to you and they are fun just to watch them move around. Both of these you can find at sefora

5-Hair: Unless you plan on washing your hair afterwards, be sure to tie your hair up or put a shower cap on to relax you do not want your hair to be filled with bubbles and bath soaps

6-Get in!: Now that you have everything ready carefully get in your bathtub and relax! Make sure you have a towel to step out on or a rug anything that will keep you from slipping

7-Get out:When your ready to come out , slowly step out on your rug and pat yourself to get dry, put on some moisturizer or body lotion and spray yourself with body mist. (I recommend Victoria’s secret Dream angel Heavenly , they have an entire collection of shower gel, bath gel, body lotion/cream,spray,perfume and even bath salt!) And go on to do something relaxing like watching a movie, reading a book or just going to bed

The beauty book: Maturing skin

How to care for maturing skin

If you do have maturing skin you probably think cleansing is the lest of your worries after all you’re past the grease! But cleansing the skin with the right products can actually help you reduce some of the signs of ageing. Once a week use a gentle exfoliating scrub or a peel off mask that will remove dead skin cells and keep skin glowing. As for moisturizing you should be aiming to replace oils and waters so choose creams that provide oil and attract moisture to the skin. When applying it don’t make the mistake of stopping when you get to your chin. the neck and chest are the first places that we age at. And finally always wear sunscreen! None of the rest is worth doing if you don’t use it. Even in the winter!

Firming facial for maturing skin

1-Cleanse the skin using a milky cleanser, leave it to skin in for a few secs then massage it in

2-Starting at your chin move around the edge of the jaw and face lightly tapping the skin 10 to 20 times

3-Apply an exfoliating mask. This will get rid of dead skin cells or try a peel off that I will give you an example of. Apply tightening cucumber pads or slices of real ones to your eyes and relax, then rinse it off by splashing your face 10-20 times

4-Apply a vitamin serum, using upwards stroking movements

5-Finish with a thick coat of moisturizer leave it to soak for 5 mins then remove it with wool

Tips for maturing skin

  • Rich moisturizers are great for your skin but if you start to break out your moisturizer is too rich
  • Don’t stop skincare at your chin your neck gives away your age faster than anything
  • Use a special eye cream daily
  • Never drag your skin while removing make up !
  • Eat more fruits and veggies that will help fight ageing and help your skin create its own sun protection

Make your face mask

  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp warm water

Melt the sugar in the warm water, apply it to the face for five mins then gently massage around your skin. Rinse well!
